Secretary Zinke Requests Comments on National Monument Designations Made Since 1996

President Trump has directed Secretary Zinke (Executive Order 13792) to conduct a thorough review of certain National Monument designations made under the Antiquities Act of 1906 since January 1, 1996 where the designation is in excess of 100,000 acres or where the Secretary determines that the designation or expansion was made without adequate public outreach and coordination with relevant stakeholders.

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke has been spending four days in Utah visiting the Bears Ears National Monument and the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument as well meeting with local and state government officials and local citizens to receive comments about the impact those monument designations have had on the state.

The Department of the Interior has announced that the agency is accepting public comments on monument designations under the Antiquities Act. Comments on the Bears Ears National Monument must be submitted by May 26, 2017. Comments on all other designations under review must be submitted by July 10, 2017.

If you would like to submit comments on the Bears Ears National Monument or one of the other National Monuments under review, click here and enter "DOI-2017-0002" in the Search bar.
