MEMORANDUM

TO:                 Members, Subcommittee on Water and Power

FROM:           George Radanovich, Chairman, Water and Power Subcommittee

SUBJECT:     Notice for Oversight Hearing on "The Role of the Power Marketing Administrations in the 21st Century"

______________________________________________________________________________

The Subcommittee on Water and Power will conduct an oversight hearing on "The Role of the Power Marketing Administrations in the 21st Century" on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in 1324 Longworth House Office Building.

Originally created to provide low-cost electricity to largely rural areas, the Power Marketing Administrations (Bonneville Power Administration, Western Area Power Administration, Southwestern Power Administration and Southeastern Power Administration) enter this century with many challenges, including higher electricity costs, an ever-changing electricity marketplace and a national need for more energy supplies.  This hearing will include views from diverse interests on the future roles of the Power Marketing Administrations in their respective regional and national electricity markets.

Witnesses will be announced at a later date and are by invitation only.

For further information regarding the hearing, please contact Kiel Weaver, Mike Correia or Daisy Minter at 202-225-8331.
