. Klamath agriculture by the numbers

The USDA Census of Agriculture is done every five years. The 2007 Census of Agriculture data was collected earlier this year and results will be released Feb. 4, 2009.

The following information was collected from the 2002 Census of Agriculture, which can be viewed on the Web at www.agcensus.usda.gov

More than 2,000 people operate 1,228 farms in Klamath County, consisting of about 703,000 acres.

Most farms are operated by one or two people; only 17 have four operators, and three have five or more.

Women make up more than one-third of total farm operators, with 212 farms principally operated by women, up almost 70 percent from 1997.
