Hastings, Grant PUD Celebrate New Hydropower License
Congressman Hastings joined Grant PUD officials and other local leaders in August to mark the new 44-year license that covers operations at Wanapum Dam and Priest Rapids Dam.

"I thank the employees and friends of Grant PUD, and the community that has stood behind these projects for helping to ensure that Central Washington will continue to benefit from the 2,000 megawatts of clean, renewable electricity produced by these dams.
In addition to providing millions of Northwest customers with low-cost power, Priest Rapids and Wanapum dams provide the means for economic growth in Grant County, through low-cost industrial power.  The dams also provide firm power to keep wind plants operating reliably.  In addition, Wanapum and Priest Rapids help serve 4,400 irrigation customers in one of the most productive agricultural areas in the nation."

Hastings Backs New Bill to Expand Hydropower
Congressman Hastings is a cosponsor of a new bill that includes $500 million to expand hydropower production, as well as other important measures to increase the supply of American-made energy.  In addition to expanding hydropower, the Security and Energy for America Act would lift the ban on offshore drilling and invest more funding in wind and solar and other new energy sources.  It also helps meet the federal government's commitment to rural schools heavily impacted by large amounts of federal land ownership.

Hastings Presses for Action on Gas Prices
This week Congressman Hastings will be in Washington, D.C. to participate in ongoing efforts by House Republicans to press Speaker Nancy Pelosi to allow an up-or-down vote on legislation to drill for more oil and gas, and produce more American-made energy and lower gas prices.
Hastings supports an "all-of-the-above" energy plan for lowering gas prices that includes:
  • Drilling for oil and gas in Alaska and offshore
  • Expanding nuclear and hydropower
  • Investing in solar, wind and other new energy sources

Hastings Marks the 75th Anniversary of the Grand Coulee Dam
This summer Congressman Hastings and Congresswoman McMorris Rodgers introduced legislation to pay tribute to those who built Grand Coulee Dam and to the workers who have kept it producing clean, renewable hydropower for so many years.  The bill also recognizes the value of hydropower in increasing the supply of American-made energy and achieving a cheaper, cleaner, more diverse energy system.
"Protecting our dams and expanding hydropower must be a priority as our nation aims to lower energy prices.  We must also tap into our oil and gas reserves in Alaska and offshore, and expand other energy sources like nuclear, wind and solar."
