MSNBC October interview with Benazir Bhutto in October after suicide attack. It is being played on MSNBC in light of today's murder of Bhutto, 12/27/07

Question paraphrased: Was it worth it to appear before the people, knowing there was a risk, and 140 were killed and 500 wounded? You (Bhutto) have 3 children and lost 2 brothers, your father was executed, and you were imprisoned and in solitary confinement.

Bhutto: "(to not appear) it means that terrorists, by threatening violence, can take over nations and destroy the quality of life of their people.

Look into the eyes of the people that received me at the airport. The joy, the happiness, the singing, the dancing, before the terrorists struck. They were celebrating my return because they want hope. If I didn't come back, the 160 million people of Pakistan wouldn't have hope of a future free from terrorism, a future that there would be democracy. The militants want an Islamist takeover of Pakistan. They have to be stopped.

I have a choice to keep silent and to allow the extremists to do what they are doing, or I have a choice to stand up and say 'this is wrong and I'm going to try and save my country,' and I have taken the 2nd choice.
