Fire marshal to investigate cause of potato shed fire

A Klamath County Fire District No. 1 investigator plans to be back at the scene today of a Saturday fire that gutted a potato shed near the intersection of Stateline Road and Highway 39.

Scott Rice, deputy fire marshal, said he should have the cause of the fire at the L&M Produce shed determined this afternoon.

Fire tore through the 180-foot-by-120-foot building, causing much of the roof to collapse and destroying the packing equipment inside.

The damage estimate for the building and equipment is $1.5 million and the inventory could be another $1 million, Rice said.

The company only dealt with potatoes and they shipped them to Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
