     ONRC Letter Revised

I redid the letter that Wendell Wood was asking his followers to send to Gov Kitzhaber.   Linda Colville

" Things are heating up in the Klamath Basin with a record drought that threatens to push struggling farmers, ranchers and  species to the brink of extinction. WE need reform to the the Endangered Species Act now ,the Klamath Basin water issue IS about "suckers" vs. "farmers" and it's about sustaining an ecosystem that the farmers and ranchers who support bald eagles, waterfowl, national wildlife refuges and the economies that depend on this water. To deny water to all these is a tragedy. The fish can and will survive and have before there were dams built for the irrigation project. Water can be shared between both.

Because of the Endangered species Act and because of federal orders to the Bureau of Reclamation for no water being provided to farmers and ranchers in the Lower Klamath area and the lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, habitat for the largest population of  bald eagles in the lower 48 states and the destination for millions of waterfowl who migrate along the Pacific Flyway is in serious jeopardy. The US Fish and Wildlife Service says denying this water will adversely affect up to 1,100 bald eagles who later this year depend on the waterfowl for their main source of food. Withholding water to these farms and refuges will impact many more economies that depend on the basin's wildlife resources.

Please Gov. Kitzhaber, help reform the ESA and give some water to the farmers and ranchers which in turn along with their crops can sustain eagles, waterfowl, and wildlife and also send needed water to the Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge."
