Pombo Calls For Healthy Forests Conferees, Conference

Washington, D.C. - House Resources Committee Chairman Richard W. Pombo (R-CA) penned a letter to House Speaker Dennis Hastert today requesting leadership to appoint conferees to H.R. 1904, the Healthy Forests Restoration Act, as soon as possible.

The House passed the Healthy Forest Restoration Act in May by an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 256-170.  The Senate approved its version of the bill last week.

"In the wake of the devastation in Southern California last week, the need for this legislation could not be clearer," wrote Chairman Pombo.   "America is facing a colossal forest health crisis.  It's past time for Congress to bridge the final divides and send a meaningful forest health bill to the President.  The sooner we enact this legislation, the sooner our land managers can get to work protecting our communities, forests and wildlife from the horrors of catastrophic wildfire."
