Walden Statement on President Bush's State of the Union Address

Washington, D.C.  - U.S. Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR) tonight issued the below statement following the President's annual State of the Union Address.

"I am especially pleased with President Bush's plans to increase investments in scientific research as well as in alternative energy sources.  America must become more energy independent.  Additionally, the President's proposals to improve education in the areas of math and science will help our nation's youth maintain a competitive edge globally.

"Obviously these are goals I share with the President, and I was pleased to hear him offer new initiatives during tonight's speech."

Congressman Walden is in his fourth term representing the people of Oregon's Second District, which includes twenty counties in central, southern and eastern Oregon.  He is a Deputy Whip in the House leadership structure and a member of both the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Resources.
