Former House Resources Committee spokesman to assume media duties

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Congressman Greg Walden (R-OR) today announced that Andrew Whelan has joined his Washington, D.C., staff as press secretary effective Monday, December 18.  Whelan, a former press secretary for the House Committee on Resources, will manage media relations for Walden.

"Andrew's experience with the natural resources issues that affect the people of central, southern and eastern Oregon make him a valuable addition to my team," Walden said.  "I welcome him aboard and am confident he will serve Oregon's Second District well."

Whelan brings a year and half of experience on the Resources Committee, where he worked on issues ranging from domestic energy production and independence to federal water, forest and parks policy.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of California, Davis, where he also gained journalism experience as Editor-in-Chief of the university's daily campus newspaper, The California Aggie.

Whelan can be contacted at the following phone numbers: (202) 226-7338 (direct) or (202) 744-7974 (cell).  He can also be reached by e-mail at andrew.whelan@mail.house.gov.
