Dam removal bond bill gets signature

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed an $11.1 billion water bond bill that would provide $250 million to remove dams on the Klamath River if approved by voters.

Most of the bond would be spent to improve the state’s water supply by building new dams and underground storage, according to the Associated Press.

The bond goes to voters in November 2010.

Along with language to fund the Klamath River dam removal, Republican state Sen. Sam Aanestad managed to include another $20 million for economic development in Siskiyou County, where three of the four dams are.
