Senator-elect Doug Whitsett Appointed to Key Committee Posts

Salem – Senator-elect Doug Whitsett (R-Klamath Falls) was appointed to three key committees on Friday by the Senate President. He will serve as the Vice-Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, a position of responsibility not usually reserved for a freshman lawmaker, as well as being appointed to the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Education. These appointments are evidence of the potential his Senate peers see in him.

As Vice-Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, Whitsett will play a key role in supporting Oregon’s economic growth by keeping Oregon’s transportation system strong. The Senate Judiciary Committee is charged with evaluating proposed changes to Oregon’s Civil and Criminal Codes. On the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Education, Senator-elect Whitsett will be dealing with funding for Oregon’s public schools, community colleges, and universities.

Requests for government spending must pass through the Ways and Mean Committee process before being sent to the full Legislature and then on to the Governor.

"Senator-elect Whitsett will bring his experience as President of Water for Life, Inc. to these key posts," said Senate Republican Leader Ted Ferrioli (R-John Day). "It is a tribute to him that he has been given such great responsibility as a freshman."
