Winema Lodge Hunting

The Winema cookhouse and bunkhouse  were built in the early 40’s by Winema Farms. The farmers had so many hunters staying seasonally in all their out buildings and spare bedrooms, the first female California hunting guide Mildred Takacs converted these farm buildings into a hunting lodge in the 50's.

Guide services are available. Our success rate depends on the birds. The birds stop at the refuge and on farmland during migration, which is dependent on the weather. This past year we had the best season in many years harvesting our limits on most days.

The price of guide services is $175 per adult and half (87.50) for each person under 17 years of age. We hunt principally refuge lands; Tule Lake and Lower Klamath Refuges are within a 10 minute drive from our lodge. Party size is limited to five people per blind, four hunters and a non-hunter (guide). We also have ridge hunting on our private land.

A 25% deposit is required and refundable if cancellation is made in a reasonable amount of time. A discount is given on party bookings exceeding 20 people.

2006 was the second year of the Pheasant Hunt-Release, where pheasants are released for the hunters and all profits go to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. The release will take place the weekend of November 4th, 2006, sponsored by Lassen Canyon strawberry farmers.

Schedule early for the best hunting dates.
